About Us
Minimize

The Elisa Project is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that promotes healthy living and awareness of the signs of disordered eating through educational programs and resources.

In 1997, Rick and Leslie McCall established the Elisa Ruth McCall Memorial Endowment at Southern Methodist University in Dallas in memory of their daughter Elisa.

Elisa was a vibrant 20-year-old college student who, like many her age, suffered the pain of an eating disorder and recorded her struggle in her personal journal. She had hoped to reach out to others, but found her own struggle too great and ultimately took her own life. The publication of her journal has inspired many in her community to rally around the cause of combating eating disorders. That is Elisa's great legacy.

The McCalls founded The Elisa Project, a non-profit organization, in 1999 to provide individuals and their loved ones with education and support. Those involved work to increase community awareness of the disease, promote recognition of the warning signs, encourage those battling an eating disorder to seek treatment and provide objective information to families regarding the availability of appropriate professional services locally and farther afield.

Spreading the Word About Disordered Eating

History of S.W.A.D.E.

SWADE began in 2002 at Highland Park High School by a student who struggled with an eating disorder. Once recovered, this student had the goal of creating an organization that would educate others about disordered eating and promote healthy living amount young adults. In 2004, The Elisa Project worked collaboratively with this high school student to strengthen S.W.A.D.E. in Highland Park High School. In 2006, the second S.W.A.D.E. chapter was facilitated at Plano West High School. In the 2007-2008 academic school year, The Episcopal School of Dallas started a S.W.A.D.E. chapter.
